Inspired by the success of Michaux, Adolphe Clément (1855-1928) founded his own workshop in Lyon in 1877, Cycles Clément SA. He then opened a large workshop in 1878 in Paris (rue Brunel in the 17th arrondissement). Under the name of Clément et Cie, his company became the most important manufacturer of cycles in France in 1886. Produced in large quantities, bicycles are now manufactured in an industrial and mechanized way. In 1894, creation of the Society of velocipedes Clément. The first factory was built in Tulle (Corrèze), where it was partly equipped with hydraulic power tools, already thinking of the next plant to be built in Levallois-Perret between the Seine and the velodrome Of the Seine the following year. 

The cycling brand CLEMENT-DUNLOP will equip cyclists from 1894 to 1914. She participated with a team in the Tour de France in 1914 with: Borgarello (It), Santia (It), Auriaux (Tours), Dejoie (Pantin). 

In 1896, he joined forces with Gladiator and Humber to become Clement-Gladiator.
